“Urban Codes” is a captivating vertical abstract painting by the contemporary Indonesian master Sutama, masterfully blending a minimalist background with an expressive, colorful core. The artwork is built upon a clean, light grey backdrop with subtle silvery undertones, bringing a sense of modern architectural aesthetics and calmness. Against this neutral base, the artist constructs a dense, vertical central matrix using his signature impasto method with a palette knife to build a heavily textured surface. At the canvas’s core, fiery geometric patches of bold red, warm orange, and sunny yellow ignite, creating a powerful contrast with deep black strokes, dark blue tones, and crisp white lines. Delicate vertical grid-like incisions carved into the wet acrylic add layered motion, mimicking the shimmering reflections and hidden rhythms of a night metropolis. With its sleek silhouette measuring 50 x 150 cm, this masterpiece serves as an ideal statement piece for pillars, corridors, narrow walls, or modern executive spaces.
